Ponoka RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 2A and 57 Ave. in the early hours of July 28.
Emergency crews saw that a pedestrian who had been laying near the southbound lane of the road surface was struck by a vehicle travelling from the northbound lane.
Initial reports indicated that the vehicle was heading north on Hwy 2A.
The collision between the vehicle and pedestrian occurred when the vehicle over-corrected coming in contact with the pedestrian laying on the road surface.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The lone occupant and driver of the sedan was arrested for impaired operation. RCMP remained on the scene for several hours while investigating with the support of the collision reconstructionist.
