The following are some of the calls the Ponoka RCMP detachment responded to between Oct. 24 and Nov. 18.
Oct. 28 – Ponoka RCMP received a report about regarding a well being check for a person laying down in the back alley near the ball diamonds across from St Augustine school. Members attended and located a deceased female. Resources were called in and an investigation was initiated.
Oct. 29 – The Royal Flush bar reported a male wearing all black and a black mask jumped over the bar, grabbed the float for the VLT and left on foot. Members attempted to track the male using the Police Dog Service but were unsuccessful. The matter is still under investigation.
Nov. 2,– Damage to a vehicle was reported to the RCMP after the victim woke up and discovered that someone had attempted to steal their vehicle over night, smashing the rear window and damaging the steering column.
Nov. 5 – Staff at Tim Hortons reported an unwanted male inside the restaurant refusing to leave. When members attended the male was seen walking out the door. Members spoke with the male and the staff did not want any further action.
Nov. 7 – Police responded to a structure fire in the 5200 block of Ponoka. The fire had been extinguished when members arrived. There was exterior damage to the house only, and it's unclear how the fire was started.
Nov. 8 – Police attended the gas bar at No Frills following an alarm call. Members arrived and found the front door glass was broken. The suspect(s) had broken into the business, leaving behind a mess of cigarettes and candy bars. Video surveillance was provided and the investigation continues.
Nov. 13 – Police attended the KFC parking lot area following a report of theft of fuel from a Kenworth truck. Members attended and located the suspect and vehicle on scene. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly.
Nov. 15 – RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle located west of the Husky gas station, parked in the bushes. Members attended and located an abandoned black GMC truck. Checks on the truck showed that it was stolen. There was no suspects or evidence around the vehicle to assist in identifying the person(s) involved in the theft.
Nov. 17 – Three males entered the HQ liquor store wearing hoodies and covering their faces. One male was carrying a duffle bag. The males filled the bag with liquor bottles and left the store on foot. Video surveillance was provided.
Nov. 18 – Police attended the Fas Gas after receiving a report of a robbery. Police arrived and met with the store employee who was out of breath and rinsing his eyes out. It was reported that a male and female entered the store and the male sprayed the employee with bear spray while the female went behind the counter with a bat and stole several items. The male wielded a hammer and smashed the cash box to remove it. Both suspects left on foot. The file is still under investigation.
