A Ponoka resident is out some cash after a scammer convinced her that her daughter needed money for bail.

The Ponoka RCMP received the report of the fraud on Jan. 1, 2024. The victim said she was contacted by someone pretending to be her daughter, saying she’d been arrested.

Then the victim was contacted by someone pretending to be a lawyer, who had a ‘bailiff’ come to collect money for bail from the victim at her residence.

An unknown male then attended the victim’s residence and collected the money. The victim then contacted her daughter who advised that it was a scam.

Ponoka RCMP are seeking assistance in identifying the suspect.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with a medium build and salt-and-pepper hair, wearing glasses, a medical face mask, and all black clothing and a black ball cap.

The suspect was driving a vehicle described as a four-door silver Subaru Legacy.

The RCMP asks anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Ponoka detachment at 403-783-4472.
