Ponoka RCMP sent a motorist’s licence for review

Police say the driver has a medical condition causing blackouts


On Oct. 24, the Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit was dispatched to a single vehicle collision that happened on Highway 2 in the northbound lanes just south of Secondary Highway 611.

There were three previous complaints regarding the driver that had occurred in the past four days. The driver suffers from a medical condition and has periods of blackouts. A letter was sent to the Driver Review Board to request a review of the driver’s licence.

Fender bender

On Oct. 27, the Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit members responded to a complaint of two vehicle motor vehicle accident on Highway 2 south of Highway 53. Traffic was extremely congested and one vehicle had to brake hard to avoid a rear-end collision.

Upon braking, a second vehicle, which was travelling behind the first vehicle was unable to stop in time and ran into the back of the first vehicle. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch and were towed from the scene.

No injuries were sustained in this motor vehicle accident.

Vandalism to mailbox

On Oct. 28, the Ponoka RCMP responded to a complaint of vandalism to a mailbox located on Highway 792 and Township Road 424.

The mail box was laying on its side with all of the compartments opened. File is currently under investigation.

Suspicious vehicles

On Oct. 28, the Ponoka RCMP responded to a complaint of two suspicious vehicles at the Crestomere Store.

A Ford duel pickup pulling a flat deck trailer with a bobcat on board and a Lincoln Navigator were at the store attempting to get fuel. The driver did not appear to know how to drive the truck and trailer and the bobcat was not strapped down properly.

A plate number of the Lincoln was provided to police and the vehicles were found to be stolen out of Lloydminster. File is currently under investigation.

The Ponoka RCMP is asking that the public be on the lookout for suspicious people/activity. There have been numerous complaints reported in regards to damage being done to parked vehicles. Reports of vehicles being keyed, mirrors broken and locks damaged.

A reminder to the public to keep your vehicles locked and remove all valuables.

Semi jackknifed

On Nov. 1, the Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit attended to the scene of a single vehicle accident involving a semi-tractor unit.

The incident occurred on Highway 2 just south of Highway 53. The semi-truck jackknifed on icy roads and went into the west ditch.

The lead trailer was completely blocking the off ramp and the second trailer took out a large length of the guardrail. The vehicle came to rest on top of the guard rail. No injuries were reported in this incident.

Dirt bike stolen

On Nov. 1, the Ponoka RCMP responded to a complaint of theft of dirt bike from a residence quonset located on Range Road 272.

The dirt bike is a red 1999 Honda CR125RX.
