Ponoka Stampede: Fun for the whole family on Kids Day

If your family can only make it out for one day of the Ponoka Stampede make it Friday, June 28

If your family can only make it out for one day of the Ponoka Stampede make it Friday, June 28.

The annual Ponoka Stampede Parade, an annual family favourite, will wind through downtown Ponoka starting at 10 a.m.

After the procession of horses, wagons, clowns, marching bands and vehicles has finished up, there’s time to grab some lunch and head over to the Stampede Grounds.

Whether you’re longtime rodeo fans or introducing your kids to the sport for the first time, Kids Day at the Ponoka Stampede is a great opportunity to take in an afternoon rodeo performance with the whole family.

Kids 12 and under are free, though tickets for the 1 p.m. performance must be reserved.

The Junior Roughstock Competition also runs Friday afternoon.

Take the chance to check out the midway for a couple of hours before the chuckwagons begin. Kids may get a kick out of watching the Kids Wild Pony Races and the Flying Cross Jockey Derby between heats.

Fireworks spark off after dark every evening during Stampede Week.
