The Ponoka U13 girls soccer teams showcased their talent and determination at the FC Memorial Challenge in Edmonton the Jan. 25 weekend. Competing in Tier 3, both teams went undefeated in all matches culminating in gold medal victories.
Coach Dittmar’s team (U12s)
The first-year U13 team impressed from the start, stepping up from their usual Tier 4 competition. They opened the tournament with a commanding 7-0 victory against Blizzard FC from Calgary, followed by a 2-0 win over Medicine Hat. On Sunday, the girls secured the gold medal with a strong 3-0 performance against Lethbridge FC.
“With three wins, 12 goals scored, and three clean sheets, our coaching staff couldn’t be prouder of these hardworking girls,” said coach Christoph Dittmar. “They stepped up and delivered an outstanding performance at a higher level.”

The second Ponoka U13 team also delivered an inspiring performance. They opened with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Fort Saskatchewan before earning a 2-0 win against SWU. In the gold medal match, the team demonstrated incredible grit and skill, defeating Medicine Hat 6-2.
“The girls truly stepped up, came out strong, and played past exhaustion,” said assistant coach Chris Maggiacomo. “They carried themselves with class both on and off the field. Their determination and growth were inspiring.”
Both teams represented Ponoka with pride, showcasing their hard work, sportsmanship, and determination.
