Ponoka’s Maddison Pearman was named to represent Canada at the upcoming ISU World Speed Skating Championships in Calgary.

She’ll be one of 19 Canadian long-track skaters set to perform on home ice at the Calgary Olympic Oval from Feb. 15-18.

Pearman will compete in the 1000 metre as an individual but will also race alongside Laurent Dubreuil, Anders Johnson, Ivanie Blondin, and Carolina Hiller in the Team Sprint.

Canada has seen plenty of success across six World Cup events this season capturing 23 medals including five gold, 11 silver, and seven bronze.

Fans interested in attending can purchase tickets for as low as $10 and the races will be livestreamed by CBC Sports. There will also be a television broadcast on Saturday and Sunday on CBC.
