The ‘Walk of the Cross’ tradition in Ponoka will continue this Good Friday, March 29.

The inter-denominational event, supported by the Ponoka Ministerial Association, will start at the parking lot south of the Ponoka United Church at 12 p.m.

Participants walk to several locations in Ponoka while carrying a wooden cross.

“Good Friday, the day that marks the crucifixion of Jesus is commemorated in many ways around the world. Of course one of the ways is to walk the Way of the Cross recalling the journey of Christ as he made his way to Calvary to be crucified,” said Deacon Rollie Comeau of the Ponoka St. Augustine Roman Catholic parish.

The “Stations of the Cross” are a Catholic devotion with 14 steps, with each station representing a moment from Jesus’ journey to Calvary on Good Friday.

The walk is open to all ages. No registration is required.

“Typically there are babies in strollers side-by-side with 80-year-old grandparents,” said Comeau.

“This is a great opportunity to live our Christian faith by sharing in the passion and death of Jesus.”
