A 20-year-old male was killed in a shooting in Maskwacis on June 1, in what RCMP are saying is another "tragic and senseless loss" due to illegal guns and gun violence.
At 5:23a.m., the Maskwacis RCMP was called to a residence in Samson Cree Nation. Upon arrival, EMS located the victim, who was deceased.
The Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was a homicide.
The victim has been identified as Travis Jason Crier, also known as Raven Crier.
“There is a direct relationship between this death and illegal firearms in Maskwacis," said Maskwacis detachment commander Ins. Richard McKay in a press release.
“During our meetings with the chiefs and counsels of all Four Nations of Maskwacis, illegal guns and gun violence are a serious concern and one they want combatted. It’s important that residents know they will have our full cooperation and support.
"If you know of the existence of illegal guns, there are ways to reach out to us safely. Call us.”
Anyone with information about the shooting or those responsible are asked to contact the Maskwacis RCMP at 780-585-3767.
