The annual Rimbey's Women’s Conference is fast approaching, with lots planned for April 10.

Keynote speaker Debra Foster, who goes by Dynamic Debra, will be kicking off the day.

“She’s going to be talking about life in the beautiful country. The feedback that we’ve had in previous years is that the ladies love keynotes that are less serious and more on the side of humour,” said Georgina Forrest, treasurer and printed materials coordinator for the Rimbey Women's Conference Committee, adding that Foster will tell some funny stories to the audience.

“The whole event is really meant for connection, but also light-heartedness and a little bit of learning and information, because our primary participants fit more into the 66 to 80 year range," said Forrest, who will also be acting as this year's MC.

The other session in the morning will be by Julie Hodge, who will speak on her topic Aging Strong for your Best (healthiest) Future

Another session is called Sisterhood of Investing: A Workshop for Women by Women, which will be presented by Jenna Hettler.

The ladies can then take part in a craft session offered by Heidi Teets from The Crafty Unicorn Club.

“This year, they’re going to learn how to make crystal suncatchers."

Both the morning sessions and afternoon sessions are concurrent, and the ladies are able to register for which one that interest them.

“We have some breaks throughout the day where we have some vendors and displays and people are invited to go and have a look at the vendor displays and shop a little bit," said Forrest.

The morning sessions are then followed by a lunch catered by MaD Catering.

“We always have a big lunch. We always get really great feedback on the fact that it’s not just sandwiches and soup, it’s a full meal.”

Following the lunch will be some form of entertainment, which Forrest said varies from year to year. This year, there will be a ReDesign Trendz Fashion Show by Sarah Desjardins. There will also be a talk by Chelsea Lawrie-Kanji titled Timeless Tips for Style & Confidence.

“We’ve had everything from dancers to musical performers to fashion shows, and just a variety of things, which we try to switch up every year," said Forrest.

The ladies then have a refreshment break before entering into the afternoon’s concurrent sessions, where there will be three different sessions, which the ladies can choose from.

The afternoon sessions are Empowered Aging: Women Rising Above the Dementia Challenge, which is presented by Donna Hamilton, A Gardening Journey: Successes, Failures and Everything In-Between by Darlene Went and the Art of Storytelling by Norene Cawthorn Reaume.

The event takes place April 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.
