The Town of Ponoka will begin street sweeping operations this week on roadways downtown and along major routes.

Sweeping will expand into residential areas in the coming weeks. At that time, community advisory signs will be placed in neighbourhoods 48 hours before street sweeping occurs to give residents advance notice, according to a release.

‘No Parking’ signs will be placed along roadways the day before street sweeping is scheduled to happen on a particular street.

Please move parked vehicles from roadways when ‘no parking’ signs are posted. This is a requirement under Traffic Bylaw 388-17 and may result in fines and towing of the vehicle at the owner’s expense if needed.

Moving parked vehicles from roadways allows crews to conduct sweeping operations safely and more efficiently. Sweeping is weather permitting and may be interrupted due to inclement weather. The public is asked to stay a safe distance from sweepers and take alternate routes to avoid equipment where possible.

Street sweeping updates will be posted at Ponoka.ca and on social media (Facebook, X and Instagram) @TownofPonoka. Note that Highway 2A and Highway 53 are provincial roadways that are maintained by the province. Inquiries related to sweeping on those roadways can be directed to the province’s contractor, Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP, at 1-877-875-3263.
