Three arrested in stolen vehicle, drug bust

Two from Maskwacis facing several charges

Two people from Maskwacis have been charged after a stolen vehicle with drugs inside was recovered by Parkland RCMP on Sept. 29.

According to an RCMP release dated Oct. 4, Parkland RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle with three occupants was stuck in a ditch near Acheson at 7:17 a.m. on Sept. 29.

Officers soon discovered the vehicle was stolen and found large amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine and a can of bear spray in the vehicle.

Three people were charged.

Kayla Johnson, 27, from Maskwacis, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of meth with the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a weapon when knowing possession was unauthorized and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Madison Ward, 23, from Maskwacis, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

A third person, Verne Johnson, 45, from Edmonton, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of meth with the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a weapon when knowing possession was unauthorized and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Kayla Johnson and Ward were released on recognizance. Their first appearance is scheduled for Oct. 9, 2019 at the Stony Plain Provincial Court.

Verne Johnson was remanded into custody. He had his first appearance on Oct. 1, 2019. His second appearance is scheduled for Oct. 7, 2019 at Edmonton Provincial Court.
