A grand opening celebration for the new 18-hole disc golf course will be held on June 14 at Riverside Rotary Park.
The event will be from 12 to 2 p.m. at the park, located at 3712 45 St.
The project was made possible by a $15,000 donation from the Ponoka Arts, Recreation and Culture Society (PARCS).
"The year-round disc golf course will enrich Ponoka for years to come," said Mayor Kevin Ferguson in a press release.
"We anticipate this new recreational amenity will attract visitors to Ponoka, boosting community pride and tourism."
The grand opening celebration will include a free barbecue, tips on playing disc golf and a ribbon cutting ceremony.
There will also be a Coffee with Council meet and greet at the same time, where citizens can share their input on the 2026 town budget.
Disc golf is a blend of traditional golf and frisbee. Players use flying discs to complete a course by aiming for chain baskets.
“It’s a sport that’s easy to learn yet challenging to master. The game appeals to everyone, from families looking for outdoor fun to avid enthusiasts seeking a competitive edge,” said PARCS board chair Amanda Henderson-Kada.
"The course will be a space for casual play and organized events, offering a unique recreation opportunity and a place for people to connect."
The disc golf course will soon be open for public use. The opening date will be announced on the town's website Ponoka.ca and on social media.
