One man has been charged and charges are pending for another suspect after the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) conducted a traffic stop on June 10.

The officers were making patrols when they spotted an offender known to them driving a Hyundai Venue. After checks revealed the male did not have a driver's license, they stopped the vehicle.

RCMP say during their interaction with the two occupants of the vehicle, they determined there were drugs in the car. Both of the occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

Upon searching the vehicle, police say they found about 27 grams of fentanyl, 53 grams of methamphetamine and other items considered consistent with drug trafficking.

Maskwacis resident Travis Bull, 22, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Charges against the second individual are pending for possession for the purpose of trafficking. The name of the suspect has not been released as the charges have not yet been sworn in court.

“Fentanyl and other drugs cause significant harm to our community, “ said Cpl. John Learn of the Wetaskiwin RCMP CRU in a press release.

“By proactively focusing our enforcement efforts on these known offenders we can have the largest impact.”

The Wetaskiwin RCMP is requesting that anyone with information on illegal drugs in the area to call the Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachment at 780-312-7267.
