Wetaskiwin RCMP charge two men with weapons and drug offences

Two men from Maskwacis were arrested and charged

The Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was watching a vehicle and occupants known to traffic drugs shortly after 5 p.m. on Oct. 4.

A traffic stop was conducted and members noticed a firearm in the vehicle, according to a release. Two males were arrested and taken into custody.  

Tyrone Tellis Lightning, 41,of Maskwacis, was charged with:

- Possession of a firearm in motor vehicle
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm when unauthorized
- Possession of a firearm without a licence


Justin Blake Simon, 35, of Maskwacis. was also charged with:

- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm when unauthorized
- Possession of a firearm without a licence
- Two counts of failing to comply with a release order
- Two counts of possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization
- Possession of drugs: methamphetamine (Crystal Meth)

Both men were presented before a Justice of the Peace. After a judicial interim hearing, Simon was remanded into custody and his next court appearance is on Oct. 8 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.   

Lightning was released with conditions and his next court appearance is set for Oct. 24 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
