The Ponoka Secondary Campus (PSC) varsity girls volleyball squad has finished its regular season in first place in its league, earning the right to host zones.
The Broncs will host the Central Alberta School Athletic Association (CASAA) zone championship on Nov. 16.
Ponoka beat Rocky Mountain House in four, with one in hand in the championship match Oct. 29.
The game started out sluggish, with the Broncs missing 17 serves, which was “devastating” says head coach Ron Labrie, but came back to dominate in the third and fourth sets.
The team pulled together its serving game and “managed to get it done,” said Labrie.
“We’re happy to be hosting, of course,” he said, adding it’s nice to have the opportunity to play in their own gym for the right to go to provincials.
If they are successful at zones, they will go on to provincials, which is being held in St. Paul from Nov. 28 to 30.
The Broncs held their senior recognition night for graduating players, both from PSC and Wetaskiwin Composite High School, on Nov. 4.
