Accident lands five in hospital

Five people were taken to hospitals following a two vehicle collision on July 27. The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Hwy 2 one mile north of Ponoka when a driver stopped on the side of the road and attempted to cross both lanes. The elderly male driver was struck by an oncoming vehicle and taken to a hospital in Edmonton by STARS Ambulance.

Five people were taken to hospitals following a two vehicle collision on July 27. The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Hwy 2 one mile north of Ponoka when a driver stopped on the side of the road and attempted to cross both lanes. The elderly male driver was struck by an oncoming vehicle and taken to a hospital in Edmonton by STARS Ambulance. The four people in the other vehicle were taken to the Ponoka and Wetaskiwin hospitals and one man was then transferred to an Edmonton hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

After the accident occurred traffic was directed onto Hwy 53.

Alcohol was a factor and RCMP are still investigating. No names will be released at this time.
