For the first time ever Allen B. Olson Auction Services’ out of Rimbey held its annual spring auction online. This switch to an online format comes from the need for social distancing and restrictions on gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 40th annual spring machinery consignment and real estate sale was reformatted from traditional methods to a timed online sale that ran from 9 a.m. April 27 to noon on May 1.

Allen Olson said, “it was a little scary to start with,” in regards to organizing the sale for an online audience. “As it turned out it was a very successful sale.”

Just under 2,000 bidders registered for the spring auction. “The bidding was very brisk,” Olson said.

Having the annual auction online went better than Olson had predicted. “We are very happy with it,” he said.

The sellers were also pleased with the results.

The online auction went so well, that Allen Olson Auctions’ is planning on doing their 40th annual summer sale online as well. The summer sale will take place on June 17.
