The Ponoka RCMP are investigating a sexual assault/home invasion that occurred on May 25 at approximately 11:30 p.m. in Ponoka. An unknown male suspect gained entry to the victim’s residence via an unlocked side door. The female victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack.

Cpl. Geoff Buxcey of the Ponoka RCMP assures residents that the town is still safe. He says that police are not releasing the location of the incident for the protection of the victim.

“This isn’t the olden days where you can keep the doors unlocked,” said Buxcey. “If someone sees an unlocked door they could try it. If a door has a lock it should be locked.”

The RCMP continue to investigate this incident.
