A youth in Maskwacis has been charged with attempted murder after an alleged machete attack on three individuals.

In the early evening of Jan. 9, Maskwacis RCMP were dispatched to assist Maskwacis EMS at a residence on the Ermineskin Cree Nation reserve.

Three victims were found at the home with injuries as a result of a machete attack, say police. Two of the victims have been treated at hospital and released.

The third victim sustained significant trauma, say police, but he is said to be recovering in hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, Battle River General Investigation Unit and Maskwacis Community Response Unit all assisted Maskwacis RCMP investigators in the investigation.

One male youth was identified and arrested without incident.

The youth received multiple charges, including attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, three counts of assault with a weapon and five counts of breach of conditions.

Police say the youth remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance.

The RCMP thanks the public for their assistance in locating the person in a safe and timely manner. His name will not be provided as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
