Collision on 57 Avenue: Police arrested an impaired driver after her car was hit by another vehicle. There were no injuries.

A parked car west of Ponoka on Range Road 262 sparked the interest of Ponoka RCMP last week.

A check of the license plate showed the Dodge Ram was not stolen, which caused the officer to further check the history of the registered owner. It turns out the owner, a 30-year-old man from Leduc, has a history of base-jumping from cell towers in the Leduc area.

As luck would have it, a cell tower was in the vicinity of the Dodge. The Mountie looked up and saw three individuals at the top of the tower where they were subsequently asked to come down. They each received a ticket of $287 for trespassing.

Bait snowmobile helps nab thieves

Ponoka RCMP received a call that a bait snowmobile was in their area and police were needed to apprehend the suspects who had it.

Wetaskiwin RCMP used the vehicle to help nab thieves and called Ponoka to stop the suspects. The recreation vehicle was being hauled by a Chevy pickup on Highway 2 near the Lacombe exit.

Police initiated their lights and pulled the pickup over. Three individuals were charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000; a 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old man, both from Red Deer and a 29-year-old Lacombe man were charged.

Bad luck for impaired driver

An April 2 collision between a blue Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight and a red Chevy Cavalier resulted in an arrest.

The Cavalier collided with the Oldsmobile at 51 Street and 57 Avenue, which resulted in damage to both vehicles. Upon further investigation, police determined the driver of the Oldsmobile, a 53-year-old Ponoka woman, showed signs of impairment.

She was arrested and provided two blood-alcohol samples of .27. The driver of the Cavalier did not receive any charges and there were no injuries.

Dragging muffler helps with arrest

Police held a traffic stop on a 2007 Chevy Impala after seeing its muffler dragging on Highway 2 north of Ponoka.

There was an odor of liquor emanating from the vehicle, which prompted the officer to ask the driver, a 30-year-old Maskwacis man, to provide breath samples. Those blood-alcohol samples showed .28 and .27.

The vehicle was stopped on Highway 2A April 4 at 11 p.m. near Township Road 440.
