Bashaw RCMP arrested a man in possession of a sawed off shot gun, another on the loose.

On May 18 Bashaw RCMP were dispatched to a report of suspicious people in Ponoka County.

Upon arrival police located two vehicles, one which had improper plates while the other had invalid registration.

Police say there were two men at the scene and while the investigator was dealing with them, one of the suspects fled in a white Dodge pick-up.

The other suspect, Cody Remple of Rimbey, was arrested with the assistance of the Ponoka RCMP general investigative section officer.

The remaining vehicle at the scene as well as a stolen enclosed trailer was searched and found to contain a sawed off shotgun and a significant amount of stolen property.

Bashaw RCMP were able to identify the man who fled the scene. Charges are pending and an arrest warrant has been requested.

Remple is charged with two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, seven counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, one count of possession of break-in instruments and one count of possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Through the investigation, police linked multiple files throughout the central Alberta district.

As a result of coordinated communication with multiple RCMP detachments and Camrose Police Services, Remple and the recovered stolen property are linked to nine investigations in Blackfalds, Camrose, Rimbey, Red Deer and Ponoka areas.
