Border services resume at Ponoka Industrial Airport

Canada Border Services Agency announcement applies to 55 small Canadian airports

The Canada Border Services Agency resumed border services earlier this month at 55 small airports across the country, including the Ponoka Industrial Airport, that were still affected by temporary measures put in place for COVID-19.

According to the Town of Ponoka website, the Ponoka airport provides CANPASS service which means that aircraft can quickly clear customs into Canada at Ponoka, rather than Calgary or Edmonton.

Owned and operated by the Ponoka Flying Club, the airport is located about one km south of the town on Highway 2A.

Other Alberta airports to resume border services include Cooking Lake Airport and Villeneuve Airport near Edmonton, and Milk River Airport.

“We understand Canadians have been eager to travel and that’s why, together with air industry partners, we’ve been continuing to undertake a gradual easing of temporary measures to manage the pandemic,” said Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino in a statement.

“All while prioritizing the health and safety of everyone in Canada, today’s announcement will help facilitate travel and make it easier for those who rely on smaller airports from coast to coast to coast to receive the highest quality of service.”
