Business award nominees announced

The businesses in Ponoka have been interviewed and assessed and the final nominees have been declared.

The Ponoka and District Chamber of Commerce’s 2008 Annual Business Awards will be honouring the chosen businesses for their efforts at a gala on Oct. 17.

The nominees for this year’s awards are as follows.

For the small business category Steel Magnolia’s, Ponoka News and Bruce’s True Value have been nominated. Large business competitors are Tim Hortons, Hamilton’s IGA and Sommer’s Home Hardware. Julie’s Travel, Ponoka Funeral Home and First Tee Golf Shop are up for Customer Service of the Year. Businesswoman of the year nominees are Theresa Turner, Marion Raugust and Brenda Raab. For the Agricultural category Central Veterinary Clinic, Town and Country Supplies and Ponoka Fertilizer are all in the run. The industrial category includes Galloway Oilfield Construction and Will’s Welding. For Chamber Member of the year Creative Media, Hamilton’s IGA and New Beginnings have been nominated for the award. Entrepreneur of the year includes Shawn Burnett of Reflections on 66, Bruce Blackmore of Bruce’s True Value and Jamil Rawji of Ponoka Professional Pharmacy.

The awards banquet will be held at the Kinsmen Community Centre.
