Engines will be revving and chrome sparkling at this year’s second annual Ponoka car show on July 26 and 27.

The Ultimate Ponoka Car Show is sure to provide entertainment and heart pounding action with burnout contests, side by side racing, a drive-in movie and more.

Tara Newton, one of the organizers, is looking forward to the car show and is working to make it a weekend that everyone can enjoy.

“Most communities in Alberta have a car show similar to this one,” said

Newton. “We have so many car lovers in this community and we want to plan something that will appeal to them and their family, we want it to be a really good event.”

On July 26 there will be a Show and Shine at the Ponoka Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ponoka Cruise at the Ponoka Town Centre, a burnout contest at 6526 44 Ave at Calnash Trucking in the industrial area and the drive-in movie at the Stampede Grounds.

There will also be a downtown garage sale on Chipman Ave.

The much anticipated Alberta 100 Footer Racing will be held the morning of July 27 at Calnash Trucking.

The first annual Ponoka Car Show created much response and the Ponoka and District Chamber of Commerce, who is hosting the event, is anticipating that this year will make for another great weekend.

“Last year it was very successful and the feedback was phenomenal,” she said. “It’s something that appeals to everyone and we want to host this in our hometown and make it an event the community can be proud of.”

Anyone is invited to participate in the racing and burnout contest and can bring their car off the street and race. There is even a new class for diesel this year and everyone is invited to come out and watch the action.

“We want to promote our town and get everyone involved,” said Newton. “There are many people in this community that go out of Ponoka to these events and we want to host this in our hometown and make it an event that the town can be proud of.”
