A vehicle slid off the Sunken Bridge, located on Township Road 425, on May 24, after the driver tried crossing the overflowed bridge.

A small white sedan tried to cross, with the river rushing over the deck of the bridge, but became lodged halfway off of the bridge.

The occupants of the vehicle managed to exit the vehicle before it become fully engulfed in water.

Upon investigation, it was found the driver had already crossed the bridge once and was trying to cross for a second time when the vehicle became trapped.

RCMP attended the scene and the vehicle was towed out of the river.

At their April 14 meeting, Ponoka County council determined it will leave the current sunken bridge on Range Road 263 as-is, as it would cost upwards of $140,000 to remove the current crossing made up of culverts encased in concrete.
