The cause of a fire that engulfed a garage on 42 St. in Ponoka in the early hours of Sunday, June 20, is still being determined by the Ponoka County Regional Fire Services.

The East District fire department responded to the call at about 5 a.m. and were on the scene for about half-an-hour before the flames were doused.

The fire resulted in the total loss of the garage, and although the flames started to spread to the home via the roof, members were able to contain the damage to the roof and kitchen, according to protective services coordinator Donna Noble.

There was no one inside the garage at the time of the fire and the occupants of the home were evacuated safely.

Ponoka RCMP confirmed there is an active, ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire.
