The Ponoka RCMP have charged a male in relation to the sexual assault/home invasion that occurred on May 25. The person was arrested between June 14 and 15 and has been remanded in custody until his hearing, which is scheduled for Ponoka Provincial Court on June 20 according to Sgt. Glenn Demaere of the Ponoka RCMP. There has been a publication ban ordered in this case and that prohibits the release of the victim’s name and the person charged.
On May 25 at approximately 11:30 p.m. the male suspect gained entry to the victim’s residence via an unlocked side door. The female victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack.
. Demaere advises basic home and personal security should be practiced at all times including do not let strange people in your house, keep your doors locked and reporting suspicious behaviour to the police.
According to Demaere there have been no other related sexual assaults in Ponoka. He says the reason that the police report took more than a week to get out was there were aspects of the investigation that had to be clarified before providing a release. He also noted that one of the challenges of the investigation was there was not a lot of information.
The RCMP continue to be actively involved in this case.
