A motorcycle collision Friday afternoon in Ponoka could have ended a lot worse.

At about 2:30 p.m. EMS crews were called to the scene of a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup at the Highway 53 and 67 Street intersection across from the Forest Home Cemetery.

Investigators say the motorcycle, which was pulling a pull-behind trailer, was northbound on 67 Street when it pulled in front of an eastbound Dodge pickup and was struck.

The pickup had the right of way and attempted to swerve and avoid colliding with the motorcycle, but could not stop in time, say police.

At the time, the motorcycle was behind a truck and trailer, say police. The incident caused some delays on the roadway and created some challenges for motorists at the busy intersection.

Ponoka RCMP, along with the Ponoka County East District Fire Department, attended the scene as well.

The male driver the motorcycle appeared to be conscious and was speaking with EMS after the collision, however, he was assessed by crews. It’s unknown the extent of his injuries.

Police charged the motorcycle driver — a $233 fine — with failing to safely stop at an intersection
