Many high school students and teaching staff in Ponoka are struggling to deal with the death of a 16-year-old boy involved in a collision last weekend.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision Saturday, March 14 on Highway 53 and Range Road 262. The boy was driving a 2007 Chevy Silverado eastbound, which collided with the rear end of a 2008 International 7000 series flat deck truck that was in the process of turning left on Range Road 262.

Members of the Ponoka Fire Department were called to assist and extricate the victim  who was then taken to the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. He was later taken by STARS Air Ambulance to the Stollery Hospital in Edmonton.

The youth later died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the International truck was not injured and alcohol and road conditions were not a factor in the collision.

The boy was from Bluffton but went to school in Ponoka. His name is not being released.
