Ponoka Secondary Campus (PSC) has a confirmed case of COVID-19.

In a news release dated Oct. 5, Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) announced that a case had been diagnosed in an individual at the school.

According to the release, WCPS and PSC were notified by Alberta Health Services on Oct. 4. and are “working closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students.”

Anyone who may have been in close contact with the infected person were called by the school administrators.

Close contacts have been advised they must self isolate for 14 days in accordance with Alberta Health guidelines. AHS will also be in contact with close contacts.

“It is understandable that a confirmed case at a school can create a level of anxiety,” said Jayson Lovell, WCPS superintendent, in the release.

“We want to assure everyone that our staff and AHS worked quickly to identify and contact families. These measures are all in place to minimize risk and spread and ensure everyone can remain safe, aware and informed.

“We are committed to reinforcing our health and safety measures to make sure everyone remains safe and healthy.”

WCPS reminds parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors/volunteers to check for any symptoms of COVID-19, using the Alberta Health daily checklist available at: www.wolfcreek.ab.ca/covid-19/daily-self-screening-for-covid-19.
