Crack cocaine seized by Ponoka RCMP

Ponoka RCMP, in co-operation with Hobbema and Wetaskiwin RCMP, seized 78 grams of crack cocaine and 268 grams of marijuana during a vehicle stop Feb.25. The vehicle was stopped after the driver was recognized for a number of firearms related offences. Police also seized $390.

Further investigation supported a search warrant being executed at a residence in Hobbema where $1,000 was seized along with drug paraphernalia.

Two suspects were charged with offenses as a result of the incident. The 25-year-old driver of the vehicle was charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime and will appear in Wetaskiwin court on March 17.

A 25-year-old woman was charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act and is to appear in court on March 25.

Washroom break lands driver in jail

During the afternoon of March 11, several complaints were made to Ponoka RCMP regarding an erratic driver travelling south on Highway 2 near the Hobbema overpass.

The complaints reported the vehicle was travelling at both excessive and slow speeds and weaving in-between lanes. The report indicated the driver pulled over near Menaik Road and urinated on the roadway.

The suspect vehicle was located by police travelling southbound on Highway 2 but refused to stop for police. RCMP pursued the suspect for 15 kilometers driving at normal highway speeds.

The vehicle finally pulled over where the driver was arrested and taken to the Ponoka RCMP detachment.

A 29-year-old male from Medicine Hat has been charged with several offenses including flight from the police, impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Ponoka court on March 18.

The RCMP thank the public for their assistance in the matter and encourage the public to call regarding any suspicious activity.

Slow down for school kids

Ponoka RCMP also handed out several tickets for speeding in school zones and remind motorists to slow down and obey traffic limits.
