Crown delays decision on charges against Ponoka man

Prosecutor Brian Newton of Calgary told court Jan. 13 the Crown will make its election on charges against Allan Melvin Bonnett, 60, on Feb. 17.

The Crown has reserved its decision on how to proceed with bankruptcy charges against a Ponoka businessman.

Prosecutor Brian Newton of Calgary told court Jan. 13 the Crown will make its election on charges against Allan Melvin Bonnett, 60, on Feb. 17.

Bonnett was charged under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act following an investigation by the RCMP Calgary Commercial Crime Section.

Bonnett was represented by Red Deer lawyer Brad Mulder and didn’t appear in court himself.

The investigation started with an order received from the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy.

Bonnett is charged with two counts of making a false entry in a statement of accounting, removing property due from the bankruptcy and a Criminal Code charge of fraud of more than $5,000.
