Maskwacis RCMP are investigating a murder attempt the evening of Jan. 9 on the Erminesking Cree Nation reserve.

One motorist had some tough questions to answer after causing a collision in a stolen vehicle.

The incident occurred Jan. 11 with members of the Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit taking the call. Much to the surprise of the motorist a driver out of Edmonton Sheriffs in a transport van observed the collision and were able to hold him until officers arrived.

Upon further investigation it was determined the vehicle, a red Acura, was reported stolen out of Edmonton. Officers say the 33-year-old man was driving the Acura when it rear-ended another vehicle before hitting the ditch.

The man was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle over $5,000, dangerous driving, driving while being disqualified and having no insurance a fine that could cost $2,875 if convicted.

The traffic unit also dealt with numerous minor collisions and vehicles in the ditch over the last week or two due wintry road conditions. Officers say the collisions, while many, were generally minor.
