BGC Lacombe locations at both Lacombe Elementary and Terrace Ridge School landed a funding boost recently from the ECHO Lacombe Association to the tune of $10,000.

Officials with ECHO said they are always on the lookout for projects and programs that provide a unique benefit to the community.

“BGC Lacombe is filling a great need in our community by offering valuable programs and services for children, youth, and families who reside in Lacombe,” said ECHO Lacombe Association president Jared Reich.

Beth Reitz, executive director for BGC Lacombe, couldn’t agree more.

“Our major focus is to provide innovative childcare options to families,” said Reitz.

“Due to our well-established relationship with Wolf Creek Public Schools, we were able to approach the individual schools for available space and program suitability at their respective locations.”

In the meantime, there is room for more registrations at both Terrace Ridge and Lacombe Upper Elementary, Reitz said, adding that the funds from Echo will certainly help with a range of start-up fees and expenses as the BGC organization continues to expand in Lacombe.

“It really shows that the community is getting behind (us), and sees the need for the service, and will help to support it,” she said. Feedback continues to be very positive.

“We have a lot of kids that are going and recruiting their friends to join,” she said with a chuckle.

“We also have a new online registration process happening, so folks can go to our web site and register through there, and of course on our Facebook page, too,” she said.

Staff members are also excited about the additional support coming their way via the ‘Burger of the Month’ program at Cilantro and Chive, she said.

Meanwhile, Reich is delighted with the momentum Echo Energy continues to generate in several ways, including with the Echo Food Rescue.

“That program is successfully diverting significant amounts of edible food from the landfill and placing it into the hands of supporters who do not want to see that resource go to waste.”

Along with supporting BGC programming, Echo Lacombe Association has also funded other great projects like the Lacombe and District Historical Society’s Learning Garden, the World’s Largest Fishing Lure, EcoVision’s Roofs 4 Kids, and the Echo Stage, the host venue for the popular Music in the Park series.

It also sponsors local events like the Light Up the Night festival.

The ECHO Lacombe Association includes representatives from the City of Lacombe, Burman University, the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce, and an additional six members from the community at large.

The group seeks to improve Lacombe’s quality of life by fostering a collaborative environment focused on cultivating innovation, nurturing a business-friendly culture, promoting sustainable growth, and creating a safe, inclusive, vibrant, and healthy community.
