The Calnash Trucking Ag Event Centre, located at 3611 Highway 2A, will host multiple events during Stampede Week.

To start things off, the weekend before the Ponoka Stampede starts, the Central Alberta Team Penning Association will hold a team penning competition from June 23 to 25.

The Alberta Reined Cow Horse Association’s “Summer Spectacular” show runs June 29 to July 2.

The action starts on Thursday, June 29, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and runs from 8 a.m. to to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1, before the finals on Sunday, July 2, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In conjunction with the Summer Spectacular will be the “Canada’s Greatest Horseman” competition June 29 to July 1.

With more than $35,000 added money and $10,000 in prizes, this is a show you won’t want to miss.

Top athletes will compete in four different events — herd work, steer stopping, rein/fence and fence finals — to win the coveted title of Canada’s Greatest Horseman.

The winner will be crowned on Canada Day, July 1.

Watch the events from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 29, 30 and July 1, with the finals running from 4 to 6 p.m. on July 1.

Admission is free to all events held at the Calnash centre during Stampede Week, and the Pony Express concession will be open daily (including for breakfast) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, on the second floor of the centre, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the Stampede. Admission is $5 dollars per person.
