Fatality in Hobbema

Members of the Hobbema RCMP discovered the body of a 16 year-old male after they responded to a gun complaint on July 27 at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the Samson Townsite in Hobbema.

The young male was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The victim’s name will not be released.

At this time the Samson Cree Nation, along with chief and council will not be giving a statement on the fatality at the request of the victim’s family who have been devastated by the death.

No charges have been laid and police have taken in two adult males for questioning.

The incident continues to be investigated by the Hobbema RCMP with the assistance of the Calgary Major Crimes Unit, Wetaskiwin/Hobbema General Investigation Section, Red Deer Forensic Identification Unit, Red Deer Search and Rescue, Hobbema Community Response Unit and Canine Unit.

RCMP responded to a second gun complaint shortly thereafter at another location in the Samson Townsite.

Guns were fired between two people in neighboring houses and one man received a gunshot wound with non-life threatening injuries.

Both of the incidents that occurred are believed to be gang related.
