The fire advisory issued by Ponoka County Regional Fire Services on April 21, has now been upgraded to a complete fire ban.

Due to a lack of moisture, warm windy conditions in the weather forecast and an ongoing fire hazard, the county’s fire services issued a full fire ban for the Town of Ponoka, effective today May 1.

Under the fire ban, no open fires are permitted within the Town of Ponoka corporate limits. The fire ban includes:

- No use of fire pits;

- No fireworks; and

- No use of wood or charcoal burning outdoor appliances.

The use of propane and natural gas barbeques is still permitted at this time although citizens are advised to be fire smart and use extreme caution when operating their barbeques.

The fire ban will remain in effect until further notice.
