Environment Canada is warning communities on the Rockies eastern slopes out to Edmonton of heavy snowfall Friday, Feb. 2, and the warning includes Ponoka, Wetaskiwin and Leduc areas.
According to Environment Canada, a snowfall warning is in effect for Brazeau County near Drayton Valley and Breton, County of Wetaskiwin near Alder Flats and Winfield, County of Wetaskiwin near Pigeon Lake, Leduc County near Calmar and Devon, Leduc County near Warburg Thorsby and Pigeon Lake, Ponoka County near Crestomere and Ponoka County near Rimbey Bluffton and Hoadley.
“A long period of snowfall, with total amounts of 20 to 30 cm is expected.
“Heavy snow will develop this morning over portions of western Alberta and slowly spread eastward and then begin to sink to the south. Snow will persist through the day today before tapering off Saturday morning for northwestern portions.
“The heavy snow is expected to push southward throughout the day today and into the overnight period which will likely require the snowfall warnings to be expanded.
“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.
“Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
