Hoadley chuckwagon driver Obrey Motowylo set a new track record of 109.61 seconds on day three of this year’s Calgary Stampede in the World Professional Chuckwagon Association races.

This makes him the first to break the 110-mark.

“That’s a pretty exciting accomplishment, especially with horses that have never been ever paired together in a team, so it was quite an outstanding feat,” said Motowylo.

He added that horses paired together don’t generally gel together that fast, and these particular horses that set the record for him had never been paired together until the day of the race.

Motowylo, who has been competing at different rodeos this summer, said it’s also nice to be back again at the Calgary Stampede, as that’s where they make their money at usually.

When it comes to his favourite part of chuckwagon racing, he said it’s all about spending time with his family.

“There’s not many jobs where you can take your family with you. My favourite part is competing with my boys,” he said adding that his wife comes along, and he gets to also see lots of his friends while there.

Motowylo’s sons Hayden and Ethan are outriders for him, along with other drivers at both the Stampede and other rodeos this summer.

Next, the Motowylo family will be headed to High River later this month.
