Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has announced that a federal inmate, Darrell Moosomin of Mosquito Lake, Saskatchewan, serving time at the Pê Sâkâstêw Centre, a minimum security federal institution had disappeared on Saturday, Aug. 13 after being released to the custody of a First Nations elder to allow him to watch the Samson Nation’s powwow at the Bear Park on the Ermineskin reserve.
A statement from the CSC said the institution was notified of the escape late evening on Saturday, at around 8:45 p.m.
RCMP Maskwacis detachment issued a separate statement describing Moosomin “a dangerous offender.”
Moosomin is said to be 54 years old, measuring 175 cm (5’9”) in height and weighing 98 kg (217 lbs). Police say he has a medium complexion, brown eyes and black hair. He has a scar on his neck and tattoos on his right hand and upper back.
CSC says, at the time of his escape, the inmate was serving an indeterminate sentence for sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, fail to comply with a probation order, operating a motor vehicle while disqualified and obstruct police/peace officer. He has also served sentences for escape lawful custody, assault, break, enter and commit and common assault.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Darrell Moosomin is asked to contact the police.
