On Thursday, Feb. 25, the board of trustees held a hastily called emergency meeting where it’s been learned superintendent Larry Jacobs tendered an indefinite leave of absence.

The circumstances or reasons that have prompted the leave were not made available to the Ponoka News and Jacobs could not be reached by the time the newspaper went to press.

Chair of the board of trustees, Trudy Bratland, confirmed Jacobs’ leave in a phone call on Monday, Feb. 29, but refused to comment on any specifics, stating only that “it was a personnel matter and I won’t be making any further comment on it.”

Jayson Lovell, assistant superintendent in charge of People Services, has become the acting superintendent and it is anticipated that more details about the situation will emerge from the board’s next meeting tomorrow, Thursday, March 3.
