The move is on.

With the move to the new civic building almost complete, the Ponoka Jubilee Library (PJL)has gone through some dramatic developments.

The new library space features an open floor plan, an accessible layout, and lots of natural light from the walls of windows.

Thanks to grants from Ponoka FCSS, KinCanada, Telus, and the provincial Community Facilities Enhancement Fund (CFEP), the library has had the opportunity to upgrade its equipment to match its new surroundings. PJL is now equipped with new shelves, new furniture, new electronic equipment, and an expanded children’s section and new teen section.

The library will be open on Monday, Oct. 29th. Coffee and cupcakes will be served from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on our opening day. Come check it out!

More programs at the library

Next week’s opening comes with the unveiling of five new programs, doubling the programs being offered.

The new programs are Baby Time (also called “The Young and the Restless”), Tagalog Storytime, Mini Makers, Crafty Saturdays, and Storytime Yoga. Of course, the library is still offering the established programs of Thursday Storytime, Fairy Tale Picnic, Lego Club, Anime/Manga Club, and Maker Madness.

All of the PJL’s programs are drop-in and free of charge, so come down and discover all the library has to offer. For more details about each program and a schedule of all the action, look up the library website at ponokalibrary.prl.ab.ca.

Book drop changes

The book drop at the new building is now available for patrons wanting to return library materials.

It is located on the parking lot side of the building, just to the right of the main doors. The book drop at the old library can still be used for the next couple of weeks, but we encourage everyone to start using the new facility.

Requesting plant donations

Forming a dynamic and healthy environment is an important aspect of generating a library that is accessible for everyone.

Taking advantage of the open concept, high ceilings, and natural light, the library is planning to create more green space within the new building. To that end, the library is asking for donations of healthy plants.

The plants need to be large and established, free of bugs and signs of disease. If you have a plant that is outgrowing its space in your house, then the library has a home for it! Please contact Sara at the library for more information at 403-783-3843.
