Maskwacis RCMP charged a youth in a stabbing incident

A 17-year-old male youth has been charged from a June 9 stabbing incident in Maskwacis.

Police say that at approximately 3 p.m., Maskwacis RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence on the Montana First Nation following an altercation.

A man suffered stab wounds and was transferred via STARS Air Ambulance to an Edmonton hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, explained police.

A short time later a 17-year-old male youth was arrested for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The youth cannot be identified due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He was remanded into custody and his next court appearance will be in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on June 21.

Maskwacis RCMP along with the Maskwacis Crime Reduction Unit continue to investigate.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be available.
