UPDATE: Wanted male, three others arrested

Four individuals from Samson Cree Nation charged with multiple offences

UPDATE:

On Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, Maskwacis RCMP were actively making attempts to locate Brandon Joel Dennehy who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

While following up with multiple leads and tips from the public, an officer with a keen eye located a vehicle associated to Dennehy. A traffic stop was attempted however, the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

Police were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device and Dennehy, along with three other individuals, were taken into custody.

Police located a firearm inside the vehicle.

Dennehy, 28, Ocean Hilbach, a 23-year-old male, Sarah Lightning, a 23-year old female, and Raven Buffalo, a 21-year-old female, all from the Samson Cree Nation, were charged jointly with the following criminal code offences:

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized

· Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

· Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition

· Possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number

Dennehy was also charged with the following criminal code offences:

· Flight from a peace officer (X2)

· Breach of a firearms prohibition (X2)

· Dangerous Driving (X2)

· Fail to comply with a release order (X2)

Hilbach was also charged with the following criminal code offences:

· Breach of a firearms prohibition (X3)

Lighting was also charged with the following criminal code offences:

· Breach of a firearms prohibition

· Fail to comply with a release order (X4)

Buffalo was also charged with the following criminal code offences:

· Fail to comply with a release order (X2)

“This is a great example of an intelligence-led investigation and detachment members working together to arrest a known dangerous offender, but also recovering a prohibited firearm,” said Cst. Andrew Deme of the Maskwacis RCMP in a release.

“We will continue to liaise with and listen to our local community leaders and work with the residents were serve to address any concerns about crime they might have.”

Dennehy, Lightning, and Buffalo were remanded into custody, while Hilbach was released on multiple conditions. All four are scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021.

Maskwacis RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a male from Samson Cree Nation that is considered armed and dangerous.

Brandon Joel Dennehy, 28, was on a release order for charges stemming from a robbery and kidnapping. It’s also alleged that on Oct. 27, 2021, Dennehy cut off an electronic monitoring ankle device.

Police are actively making attempts to locate Dennehy.

Dennehy is now charged and wanted for failure to comply with conditions of a release order and mischief under $5,000.

He is described as 6’5” tall, 266lbs with brown eyes and brown or blonde hair.

Dennehy is believed to frequent the Maskwacis, Ponoka, and Wetaskiwin area.

As Dennehy is considered dangerous and may be armed, he should not be approached by the public. If located, you are asked to call 911 immediately.
