Alberta Restries Office coming to Samson Cree Nation

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the first-ever registry office on a First Nation Territory was held in Samson Cree Nation (SCN), in Maskwacis, Alta., on April 3.

SCN Chief Vernon Saddleback, Minister of Indigenous Relations Rick Wilson and Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Dale Nally were in attendance to mark the event.

“This registries office is about providing a service of access for all of Maskwacis peoples,” said Chief Saddleback in a Facebook post.

The ceremony was held at the Samson real estate condos (the former Hawk Radio office).

Samson band Coun. Ryan Lightning stated in a press release that the nation worked with the Economic Development department to open an Alberta Registries Office.

The office will be able to issue Provincial Identification Cards, birth certificates, licences, learner permits, vehicle registration, and more.
