Minor injuries in three-vehicle collision south of Ponoka

A three-vehicle collision south of Ponoka resulted in minor injuries.

The incident occurred on the evening of Jan. 7 south of Ponoka at the Highway 2A and Matejka Road intersection.

Full details were unavailable at press time, but it is believed a sedan crossed Highway 2A when it collided with the side of a pickup pushing it into the opposing lane. Another pickup, travelling in the opposite direction on Highway 2A, then collided with the rear end of that pickup.

It is believed there were only minor injuries from the incident. Ponoka News will update as more information becomes available.

Bus on fire

On Jan. 5, the Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit members responded to a bus on fire on Highway 2 in the middle of the six lane south of Ponoka.

All occupants of the bus were evacuated and when the officer arrived he grabbed a fire extinguisher from his patrol unit and proceeded to extinguish the flames that were coming from under the hood of the vehicle.

He was able to get most of the fire extinguished, but after approximately thirty seconds the fire ignited again, this time in the dash area inside the vehicle.

The officer attempted a second time to put out the fire it was too far gone. The Lacombe County Fire Department attended and successfully extinguished the fire.

There were no injuries reported in this vehicle fire although the bus is no longer drivable.

Vehicle rollover

On Jan. 7, Ponoka RCMP were called to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A by Morningside.

A Chevrolet Silverado was northbound and crossed into the southbound lanes, hit an embankment, went through a fence and the vehicle subsequently rolled.

The pickup came to rest on the driver’s side, and the driver crawled through the rear window to exit the vehicle. The 61-year-old man from Ponoka sustained injuries to his hands.

Abandoned vehicle stolen

On Jan. 5 the Ponoka RCMP were on routine patrol and located an abandoned vehicle parked on the side of the road on Highway 2A and Township Road 435.

Upon investigation it was determined that the vehicle was stolen out of Calgary and the file is currently under investigation.

Theft of gas

Theft of gas occurred on Jan. 3 between 6:30 and 8:16 p.m. at a residence on Secondary Highway 792 and Township Road 414.

The locks of the gas tank had been cut by unknown suspects. A neighbour thought he may have seen a black Dodge Charger in the area. Members attended. File still under investigation.

Suspects search home

On Dec. 30, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., unknown suspects entered a residence in the area of Township Road 414 and Secondary Highway 792 items were rummaged through but nothing stolen as valuables were in a safe.

Door kicked open

Between 11 p.m on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 at 9 a.m. unknown suspects kicked in the front door to a residence in the area of Township Road 433 and Range Road 261.

A television was stolen and the residence was rummaged through.

Attempted break and enter

On Dec. 29 at 1:30 p.m. and Dec. 31 at 5:40 a.m. Mounties received complaints from an alarm company that a break and enter was in progress at a rural residence in the area of Township Road 415 and Range Road 261.

An immediate patrol was made on both occasions. Unknown suspects were gone on arrival. They had attempted to enter the residence through the front door but were unsuccessful and left.
