As Mirror celebrates 105 years this July as a community, the hamlet faced a devastating fire in the early hours of Monday morning, April 3 with its downtown hardware store being gutted in the fire.

"We were called around midnight," Alix Fire Chief Darren Hiron confirmed. "We had four fire trucks deployed and it took us a little more than seven hours to bring the fire under control."

Hiron said when his team reached the scene the building was on fire and blazing away, and by the time they left around 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning, the building had been razed to the ground.

The original business was taken over by its current owner a few years ago, but as of April 3 there was nothing left of it.

The cause of fire is still under investigation.
