The building in which Lacombe-Ponoka MLA Ron Orr has his constituency office has recently been the target of signs, seemingly in protest or derision of the United Conservative Party (UCP).

Most recently, a sign was put up this weekend regarding the at least eight UCP MLA’s who chose to travel out-of-country over the holidays.

The sign, which Jessica Jones of Ponoka takes credit for, thanks the MLA for presumably not travelling, but was accompanied with aloe vera and Skin Assist for his colleagues.

“As an Albertan who has many friends and family working in the medical profession, putting their health and safety on the line every day, I am tremendously offended by the decisions our politicians have made,” said Jones.

“Their judgment to not cancel their sunny vacations display an appalling lack of leadership, judgment, and sensitivity to the Albertans who have had to make extreme sacrifices this holiday season.”

The premier’s office confirmed on Saturday that at least eight UCP MLAs had travelled outside the country recently.

“This is the Premier and the UCP Government lacking moral judgment, lacking any compassion for the 4 million people in Alberta who were told they couldn’t see their parents and grandparents at Christmas,” said NDP Leader Rachel Notley in a recent press release.

Other signs were posted sometime before Christmas, and it is not known who put them up. One banner appeared to read “Jingle bells UCP cause 800+ farewells.”

The building, located in Lacombe, is privately owned and not government property.

According to the constituency office, no one had been working in the office since Premier Kenney’s work-from-home pronouncement. As such, they are unaware of when the signs may have been posted, but believe they were taken down by the building’s landlord on Dec. 24.
