After two years of fundraising, the community of Morningside has a new playground, completed on May 25.

A group of volunteers, the Morningside Community Fundraising Committee, was behind the project.

“We finished the final steps and have a brand new playground,” said Kendra Mottus, a member of the committee.

The ground breaking was held on May 11, with area families coming out to lend a shovel and a helping hand.

DB Bobcat Services Inc. donated their time and labour.

After the playground was completed, the group got the go-ahead from Lacombe County and the playground is now open for public use.

“There are kids from the community playing on it now,” Mottus said May 26.

The committee hopes to hold an official grand opening some time in the near future.

The group of ladies hosted “several indoor garage sales, community potlucks, a paint night, and have received generous donations from local businesses and community members,” said Mottus.

The members of the committee are Janet Hatala, Glenna Thompson, Barb Cappis, Vicki Berg, Penny Mottus and Kendra Mottus.
